Renewal of MOU with ANZCA at the ASM

We are delighted to share that during the recent Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM), the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (ANZCA) was formally renewed and signed.

This renewal reaffirms the strong partnership between our institutions and underscores our shared commitment to advancing professional standards, education, and collaboration across the region. By strengthening this agreement, we look forward to building on past achievements and exploring new opportunities that will benefit fellows, trainees, and the wider medical community.

Future Leaders in Anaesthesia Conference 2025 –Convenors’ Message

On a beautiful sunny Monday, 24th November 2025, the inaugural Future Leaders in Anaesthesia Conference (FLAC) was successfully held at the Beas River Country Club, Hong Kong. This event marked a significant milestone in nurturing the next generation of leaders in anaesthesia in Hong Kong.

Under the theme of “Empowering Minds – Innovate and Inspire”, the conference explored topics of leadership development for young fellows. The programme featured insightful sharing from distinguished speakers, as well as an interactive panel discussion with local and overseas leaders. Our young fellows were given opportunities to explore real-world challenges, career development and coaching on communication skills and adaptive leadership styles. Blessed with clear blue skies, conference guests and participants also had a refreshing outdoor walk around the beautiful venue. Our delegates connected and networked under the warm sunshine and pleasant breeze, fostering bonds amongst our local and overseas counterparts.

We extend our deepest gratitude to the Hong Kong College of Anaesthesiologists (HKCA) for their unwavering support. We also greatly appreciate the participation from the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (ANZCA), the College of Anaesthesiologists, Singapore, and the College of Anaesthesiologists, Academy of Medicine of Malaysia. The international collaboration was invaluable to the success of our event. Ultimately, the FLAC was much more than a single day of learning and networking; it was about planting seeds for the future. By nurturing our young fellows who will become the next generation of leaders, we hope to continue excellence and innovation in our specialty.

ASM 2025 – Message of the Chair of ASM 2025 OC

The Annual Scientific Meeting in Anaesthesiology (ASM) 2025 was held on 22–23 November 2025 at the Hopewell Hotel, Hong Kong. With the theme “Connecting”, the Meeting aimed to bring together advances in clinical knowledge while strengthening professional links across subspecialties, disciplines, and regions.

The Meeting attracted over 500 participants from Hong Kong, Mainland China, Macau, and overseas. A comprehensive scientific programme was delivered, comprising 15 symposia, two pro–con debates, seven hands-on workshops, and scientific oral presentations. The programme covered a wide range of contemporary topics, including airway management, perioperative medicine, pain medicine, regional anaesthesia, critical care, paediatrics, obstetric anaesthesia, medicolegal issues, well-being, sustainability, and the growing application of artificial intelligence in healthcare.
A particular strength of ASM 2025 was its focus on interactive, practice-oriented learning. The hands-on workshops were fully subscribed and well-received. Participant feedback consistently highlighted the value of practical demonstrations and case-based discussion, reflecting the importance of learning formats that support direct application to clinical practice.
Beyond the formal scientific sessions, the Meeting facilitated meaningful professional exchange. The pro–con debates encouraged critical discussion, while informal interactions during workshops, breaks, and the healthcare industry exhibition allowed participants to reconnect with colleagues and establish new professional relationships. Such exchanges were an important, if less visible, outcome of the Meeting.
Post-meeting evaluations demonstrated high overall satisfaction, with favourable feedback on programme quality, speaker calibre, relevance to clinical practice, and venue arrangements. At the same time, the feedback provided constructive direction for future meetings, including requests for extended workshop time and enhanced opportunities for discussion.
In retrospect, the theme “Connecting” was reflected not only in the programme design but also in the outcomes of the Meeting. ASM 2025 connected evidence with practice, brought together professionals from different backgrounds and career stages, and fostered exchanges that extended beyond the two-day programme. Many of these moments were captured in the Meeting’s photo gallery, which reflects the shared engagement and collegiality that characterised ASM 2025

Meeting with Examiners at the ASM

During the recent Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM), a dedicated session was held with our examiners. The objective of this gathering was to reaffirm the vital roles and responsibilities of examiners and to review the examination process in detail.
This meeting provided an important platform to:
– Reiterate the standards expected of examiners in maintaining fairness and consistency.
– Clarify procedures to ensure transparency and integrity throughout the examination process.
– Strengthen alignment among examiners in upholding the College’s commitment to excellence in assessment.
Looking ahead, the Board of Examinations is committed to further enhancing the examination system. A key future direction is the development of our own MCQ bank, which will provide a robust and standardised high-quality assessments.
We thank all examiners for their continued dedication and contributions. Their commitment ensures that our examinations remain rigorous, equitable, and reflective of the highest professional standards.
