Annual Subscription

Debit notes for the 2016 subscriptions have been sent to Fellows and Members. Please settle your subscription as soon as possible. The annual subscription would be waived for fellows and members aged over 65 or for those who have declared retirement (irrespective of age). The waiving of subscription will start in the following financial year after the fellow/member had attained aged 65 or over or after the retirement application received by the College secretariat. To declare retirement, a written declaration from the applicant confirming that he/she had retired from all remunerative practice/job/business in or outside Hong Kong. Intermediate Exam - Suggested Reading Texts

In preparation of the intermediate fellowship examination, the Board of Examination has suggested a list of textbooks. It should be emphasized that a broad knowledge in physiology, pharmacology, clinical measurements and statistics are required to pass the exam, and that questions in the exam are not meant to be limited to the materials covered in these texts.

British Journal of Anaesthesia (BJA) and BJA Education

The College signed an affiliation agreement with The British Journal of Anaesthesia (BJA) and Oxford University Press (OUP) on 14 November 2015 during the ASM Opening Ceremony. Fellows would be able to access BJA and eligible to access the online CPD which will be recognised by HKCA. The details will be announced soon via email. Pain Medicine Training in Australia

Faculty of Pain Medicine, The Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (FPM, AZNCA) is providing opportunities for HKCA Pain Medicine trainees to expose themselves in accredited training centres in Australia. Reciprocal accreditation between FPM, ANZCA and Board of Pain Medicine, HKCA and access to an appropriate supervisor can be arranged. Public Talk on Anaesthesiology in Hong Kong – Development over the past 126 years

Hong Kong Museum of Medical Sciences Society held a public talk about the history and development of Anaesthesiology in Hong Kong on 16 January 2016 at Hong Kong Museum of Medical Sciences. Dr Amy Lam May-sien, a veteran anaesthesiologist presented a chronological advancement of the practice of anaesthesiology in Hong Kong from the past to the present. Dr Lam also recalled a few milestones in the past years such as the first open-heart surgery in 1972, the first heart-transplant in 1992, the first paediatric liver transplant in 1993, the first lung-transplant in 1995, etc. The significant role of anaesthetists in these operations was highlighted. The College would like to express gratitude to Dr Lam for giving the fruitful and informative talk.

 

 

 

CPR Marathon

Hong Kong Society for Emergency Medicine & Surgery (HKSEMS) conducted a CPR Marathon 2016 on 10 January 2016 at Macpherson Stadium. With thanks to the HKCA team members including Dr Zoey Tam, Dr Angela Chan, Dr Benjamin Siu and Dr Derek Ng, the College could be part of it to contribute to the achievement of one million chest compressions of Hong Kong, far more than the original target, 300K chest compressions.

 

 

Annual Scientific Meeting in Anaesthesiolog 2016 - Cancelled

In view of the World Congress of Anaesthesiologists (WCA 2016) to be held in Hong Kong from 28 August to 2 September 2016, the Annual Scientific Meeting in Anaesthesiology (ASM) in 2016 is cancelled.

 

 

WCA 2016

The 16th World Congress of Anaesthesiologists (WCA 2016) is the only truly global congress of its kind and will be held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre in Hong Kong from 28 August to 2 September, 2016.
WCA 2016 will cover all areas of anaesthesiology and its sub-specialities with the focus on delivering the benchmark for best practice as well as incorporating a strong practical emphasis. The 17 track programme will showcase the latest research and findings in in anaesthesia, pain medicine, resuscitation and intensive care and includes workshops, PBLs and poster sessions as well as lectures from opinion leaders from around the world. The programme also features a Humanities track which includes music, art, ethics as well as history.
The Harold Griffith lecture is traditionally one of the programme’s key highlights and WCA 2016 is proud to present two prominent innovators in the field of medical care and global health, Atul Gawande, MD, MPH and Tore Laerdal, Exec Dir Laerdal Foundation. These renowned figures will be sharing their insights on the future of global health and engaging with the audience on this crucial topic during the session.
