Revised CME/CPD Guidelines

In view of the recent update of HKAM CME/CPD guidelines, our College amended the guidelines for 2011 cycle as follows:
  • 7.8 Starting from 1 January 2011, a minimum of 5 points is strongly recommended to be obtained from Quality Assurance (QA) activities for each 3 year cycle.

  • 17 ......The CME/CPD points earned for postgraduate course which is extended more than 1 CME/CPD cycle can only be claimed for 1 cycle.

  • 19 Quality assurance activities, such as clinical/surgical/service review and audit, clinical governance, peer review of operative practice, activities that examine and evaluate the clinical care of patients or individual practice;

  • 20 Participation in mortality and morbidity meetings or structured quality improvement meetings that audit individual or medical practice;

  • 21 Participation in learning/activities that enhances the ability to practise medicine both as an individual doctor and as part of the health care team eventually leading to improvement of patient management and medical care, e.g. clinical and other skills laboratory learning, simulator and virtual reality learning, patient safety enhancement programme.

  • 22 Participation in and successful completion of each of the following course may earn 10 anaesthetic CME/CPD points : ACRM, ATLS, ACLS, APLS, EMAC

  • 27.3 a i) have achieved not less than two-thirds of the required number of points for a cycle;

  • 27.4 For Fellows who have obtained less than two-thirds of the required points for a cycle without acceptable reasons,......

CME/CPD Reminder

The current CME/CPD cycle for fellows will end on 31 December 2010. A complete report can be viewed on the iCMECPD system (www.icmecpd.hk). It is the Academy iCMECPD system which records your CME/CPD activities and it enables you to obtain a real-time retrievable CME/CPD data through the internet. You are welcome to call the Academy at 2871-8888 and ask for the CME contact person if you have not yet activated or created your account with the iCMECPD.

Exit Assessment in 2011

The College has announced the dates for Exit Assessment in 2011 and they will be held on the following dates.  

  • 6 January 2011 (Thu)

  • 7 April 2011 (Thu)

  • 7 July 2011 (Thu)

  • 6 October 2011 (Thu)

Applications who wish to sit for the exit assessment, please submit the fellowship application form with the relevant documents to the Chief Censor at least 21 days before the exit assessment.

Updates on Combined Scientific Meeting 2011

Combined Scientific Meeting of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists, the Faculty of Pain Medicine and the Hong Kong College of Anaesthesiologists (CSM 2011) will offer a very good experience and networking opportunity to discuss the current topics in Anaesthesia, Pain Medicine and Intensive Care. The programme includes lectures of invited international and regional speakers, practical workshops and problem based learning discussions. An exhibition will also be held concurrently to show you the latest products and services offered by the Health Care Industry.

HKCA Conference Grant for CSM 2011
The council of the College endorsed that a Conference Grant will be set up for fellows and members attending the CSM 2011. The amount of the grant is HK$5,000 for fellows and HK$3,750 for members. Fellows and members who are living overseas, the equivalent amount in the corresponding currency will be remitted. Please click here for details.



Examiners Workshop
With Dr. Mark Priestley's valuable contribution and lots of examiners active participation, the examiners workshop was held successfully on 26 August 2010. We were greatly encouraged by the positive response and feedback.
 

 

 

Scientific Evening Symposium 2010, HKCA & SAHK

The College and SAHK were held an evening symposium on 29 September 2010. Over 100 participants registered for the symposium. We were pleased to have Prof. Lee A. Fleisher, Prof. Michael Irwin to deliver lectures and Dr. Chi-Wai Cheung to chair during the symposium.
