College President (2011-2013)
| Dr CHOW Yu Fat |
|
It is my great honour to be elected as the President of the Hong Kong College of Anaesthesiologists.
I am honoured and fortunate to be able to follow the footsteps of our predecessors who have laid down a solid foundation for our College. The system and infrastructure are in place and we passed our 20th anniversary in 2009. Coming years will be an era of contrast with consolidation of existing developments as well as exploration of new frontiers.
The challenges facing our College today are formidable: raising expectations from the patient and the society, demand for transparency, free and rapid flow of information, permeation of internet / LOcal SOcial MObile; tightened regulation for professional practice, shortage of healthcare workers and medical graduates, blurred interspecialty boundaries with areas of uncertainty, and evolving competencies of tomorrow’s specialists. All would impose endless adaptation in our training and education leading to specialist anaesthesiologists.
The current condition also provides an opportunity for us to reflect our objectives and vision. The following issues are on the plate: review of fellowship curriculum and examination for our trainees, reassessment of CME/CPD activities for our fellows, multidisciplinary simulation training in medicine, establishment of fellowship in pain medicine, collaboration with the Hong Kong College of Emergency Medicine for intensive care medicine fellowship training, procedural sedation by non-anaesthesiologists, establishment of the Resuscitation Council of Hong Kong, as well as reinforcement of national and international professional relationship...
We hope you will visit our website often to stay up to date with our College. We treasure fraternity among our Fellows and Members. And we welcome your questions, comments, and suggestions.
I would like to thank our Members, Fellows and Council members to give me the opportunity to serve the College in the capacity of The President. I look forward to your engagement, support and contribution such that our College will grow in strength, and be an important member in the world stage of Anaesthesiology.
